Athlete of the Month

Perhaps one of the best quotes we’ve heard has been from Alison, “My favorite part of the workout is the pain.” Not the bad pain, but the good pain when you know you got out of your comfort zone and you’ll be seeing results. Alison loves to share this kind of pain with her fellow athletes. She comes early, stays late and cheers everyone on with a smile. Though it can be frustrating to work around a chronic injury, Alison listens to her coaches and works smart.  She knows her modifications and sticks with her stretching and exercise homework so she can keep improving in other areas while keeping her shoulder healthy. We salute Alison for working hard where she can, but staying smart and thinking about the long-game of continued improvement and fitness. Changes noticed: "I could give you a ten volume novel about how my life has physically changed, because whoo boy,...

Ryan is a true scientist, a chemist, and uses Innate as his big break from his PhD studies. After putting in a 10-12hr day at school he uses Innate as his playground where he often spends about 2 hours doing both the main WOD as well as the competitor add-on or supplemental work in order to improve his mobility and technique to get stronger.  A double-under master, Ryan has excellent endurance, a killer engine, and his strength and technique is catching up fast. He's very coachable, polite and fun. Ryan’s girlfriend is also kicking butt getting her degree and still comes up to work out with us twice a month. Ryan is a testament to what an avid exerciser can do with the leverage of coaching and a group of peers to elevate your game. Changes noticed: "In six months my lifts have improved about 30% across the board, and my mile time...

Brendan Fereday Another pick from Team Hakuna Masquata! They must be winners ;) Those of us who have coached Brendan all agree he’s a hard worker, has good movement technique, and learns quickly. He is the epitome of how consistency over time leads to results! Though he has scoliosis, you’d never know as he doesn't let it hold him back from anything. He's made big strides in his flexibility as well as his strength and body weight movements like the ring muscle up! So much so that his friends now call him Thor! Brendan is currently an Elementary school teacher. However, he just got into Harvard grad school & will be taking a break from Innate this fall to further his education. Changes noticed: I have noticed a huge change in mobility, energy, and my physical ability. Surprisingly, little areas of pain that I had in my back and knees before I...

Romain Clerget Romain is truly dedicated to improving his flexibility for his squat and beyond! Each evening he arrives early to work on his ankles, calves and hips before class and then puts in work on his WOD. After which he often completes the competitor programming or jumps into gymnastics. He's made leaps and bounds in English as his second language, and is friendly to all new-comers. Plus he's a good sport and participates in many of our community events (go team Hakuna-Masquata!) Changes noticed: Since I started Innate I have noticed many changes in my flexibility, strength and performance. I have been involved in sports since I was a kid. It began with gymnastics from age 5 to 7, then I got into football ("soccer") which I stuck with for many years. I also enjoyed mountain biking frequently and each summer I would try many different sports like diving, horseback riding, and climbing. When I Margery and...

Jacqueline Bernal Last spring Jacqueline walked away from our 21-Day Reset over 8lbs lighter and with some healthy habits that stuck! Now just a year over starting with us, and she’s dropped a total of 20lbs, plus she has gained confidence using heavier weight and challenging herself with all different exercises.  Jacqueline serves as a role model for her two kids. She reminds us that getting out of your comfort zone and challenging yourself is important to see big changes in your mind, body and lifestyle. Changes noticed: In this last year, oh so many changes! I have lost weight; so far 20lbs. I’ve gotten stronger, I have gotten out of my comfort zone and done exercises I would not dare to try. Jumping on a box is a big thing for me, my brain tells me “feel the pain on your shin,” not saying I’m not still a bit scared, but oh so...

The Stanley Boys!   Thomas "Thug Life" Stanley - was an early supporter of his dad (coach Seth) when he first started teaching morning classes and would wake up early to come take BOTH the 5:45am and 7am classes! He can back-squat over half his body weight and is just all around pretty gangsta...

Kendra Wiggins   Kendra came to Innate about 6 months ago looking for workouts that were a better fit for her schedule. She's got 2 young boys and a job in healthcare. Coming from a long history of competitive running and athletics, she got into CrossFit 4 years ago. Kendra shows up very consistently when she's not traveling with her family on various adventures. When she shows up she gives her all to every workout. She’s not loud or boastful about her awesome fitness, just leads by example with hard work and focus.   A few months ago we started seeing a tiny belly poking out and she told us she was pregnant with #3! She listens to her body and though she may feel like she's slowed down a lot, it doesn't look like it to us! We are proud to have her on the team and in the family. She's a great...

Jeff Matson   Jeff started a little over a year ago with not much going on in the athletic/fitness/muscle department. He never played any sports or worked any exercise program outside of skating and surfing growing up. He had constant back pain, could only do a few pushups, no pull ups, and was winded after the warm up. Now he’s pain-free in his back and looks 10 years younger, he’s more fit and toned than ever. Jeff can now deadlift 265#, do 3 strict pull ups, and he’s finishing even the toughest workouts.   Thanks to his commitment and dedication, 12 months of showing up 3+ times/week and putting in extra work on important goals, he’s transformed his health and fitness. He’s an awesome example of what we can do when we apply ourselves with focused effort.   And he’s only getting started…   Changes Noticed: Before starting with Innate I had debilitating back issues from poor posture...
